The President of the Government, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, and the President of Brazil, Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva, were optimistic yesterday about the closing of the free trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur, despite France’s rejection, and agreed on the need for democratic elections in Venezuela. However, Lula asked the Venezuelan opposition not to imitate the Brazilian opposition and “not to have the habit of denying the cleanliness of the electoral process.”<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The agreement between the EU and Mercosur<\/strong>, \u201cin addition to reinforcing our commercial and investment ties, would provide clear social, labor and environmental benefits,\u201d declared Pedro S\u00e1nchez during the joint press conference after his meeting with Lula at the Palace. For his part, Lula assured that the Mercosur countries are \u201cready to sign the agreement with the EU\u201d<\/strong> for \u201cthe good of America, Mercosur and the European Union,\u201d because \u201cwe have reached a point where we need it politically.\u201d , economically and geographically.\u201d<\/p>\n

Concertation and democracy mechanism<\/strong><\/h5>\n

During the press conference, Pedro S\u00e1nchez assured that one of the objectives of his trip to Brazil was to \u201cstrengthen\u201d the ties between the two countries and \u201cdeepen an already excellent relationship.\u201d For this reason, he announced that both governments are going to \u201cinstitutionalize a permanent consultation mechanism between the Government of Brazil and the Government of Spain.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
