{"id":82469,"date":"2024-02-29T05:03:18","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T04:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zen-hopper.82-223-81-17.plesk.page\/2024\/02\/29\/albares-will-demand-poland-to-hold-trial-against-pablo-gonzalez-as-soon-as-possible\/"},"modified":"2024-02-29T05:03:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-29T04:03:18","slug":"albares-will-demand-poland-to-hold-trial-against-pablo-gonzalez-as-soon-as-possible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thediplomatinspain.com\/en\/2024\/02\/29\/albares-will-demand-poland-to-hold-trial-against-pablo-gonzalez-as-soon-as-possible\/","title":{"rendered":"Albares &#8220;will demand&#8221; Poland to hold trial against Pablo Gonz\u00e1lez \u201cas soon as possible\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6><strong>The Diplomat<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares, assured yesterday in Congress that he will continue to &#8220;demand&#8221; that the Government of Poland hold the oral trial against the Spanish journalist Pablo Gonz\u00e1lez &#8220;as soon as possible.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am going to continue demanding an oral trial as soon as possible and I am going to continue taking care of it directly and giving instructions, as I have done for two years, to the Spanish ambassador in Poland so that he can personally take care of it,\u201d said the minister during the session of control to the Government, in response to <strong>a question from EH Bildu deputy Jon I\u00f1arritu about the situation of Gonz\u00e1lez, who has been in preventive detention in Poland since February 28, 2022 under the accusation of espionage. <\/strong>In this regard, I\u00f1arritu recalled in his speech that &#8220;in Poland there is no rule that limits the maximum time of preventive detention, despite the different resolutions of the European Court of Human Rights.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Albares assured that he <strong>has asked, \u201csystematically from day one,\u201d that \u201cwhatever evidence there may be\u201d against Gonz\u00e1lez be presented and that \u201chis presumption of innocence\u201d be respected<\/strong>. &#8220;I am neither a judge nor a police officer, I am Minister of Foreign Affairs and, therefore, I do not investigate, but I do want there to be a trial, an oral, adversarial and public trial, as soon as possible, and that is what I have requested.&#8221; insistently to the Minister of Foreign Affairs,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pablo Gonz\u00e1lez, a resident of Guernica, was detained on February 28, 2022 in Przemysl, Poland, where he was covering the refugee crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
