The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has created an Honorary Consular Office<\/strong>, with the status of Honorary Consulate of Spain, in Benghazi (Libya), and has elevated the Honorary Consular Office in Atlanta (United States) to the same status.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to Monday’s Official State Gazette (BOE)<\/strong><\/a>, in addition to Benghazi<\/strong>, the Honorary Consular Offices of Col\u00f3n<\/strong> (Panama), Taraz<\/strong> (Kazakhstan) and Timbu<\/strong> (Bhutan) have been created, all of them with the category of Honorary Consulate of Spain.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Honorary Vice-Consulate in Triesen<\/strong> (Liechtenstein) has also been upgraded to the status of Honorary Consulate.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Brazil, the honorary consular offices in Macei\u00f3<\/strong>, in the state of Alagoas, and Joao Pessoa<\/strong> (state of Para\u00edba) have been abolished. At the same time, the Honorary Consular Office, with the status of Honorary Consulate, has been created in Arcaju<\/strong> (Sergipe state) and the circumscription of the Honorary Consulate in Recife<\/strong> (Pernamubo state) has been modified, which will now also cover the state of Paraiba.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The aforementioned changes are aimed at making the consular assistance provided by these offices more efficient<\/strong> and extending this assistance to areas where until now there was no Spanish consular presence.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

These modifications “will not entail any increase in personnel costs”<\/strong>, according to the respective orders published in the BOE.<\/p>\n
