The Embassy of the Dominican Republic<\/strong> presents the play 25 de noviembre o el comportamiento de las mariposas, <\/em><\/strong>at the Centro Cultural Eduardo \u00darculo<\/strong> de Tetu\u00e1n (Plaza Donoso, 5) next Wednesday at 6pm, followed by a discussion with experts on gender-based violence.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n An independent and autonomous play that brings to life the story of the sisters Patria, Minerva and Mar\u00eda Teresa Mirabal, political activists from the Dominican Republic who, together with their partners, founded the 14 de junio movement, murdered by the regime of Rafael Le\u00f3nidas Trujillo on 25 November 1960, a date that 40 years later and in homage to them, the UN has designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.<\/strong> The Mirabal sisters are known as “the butterflies”. A fourth sister, B\u00e9lgica Adela “Ded\u00e9” Mirabal,<\/strong> did not participate in political activity like her three sisters, but supported them.
