AA.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The second language in terms of the number of native speakers and an important language of international communication, Spanish is not only a powerful sign of collective identity, but also one of the most valuable intangible assets for the community of its speakers, spread across the five continents. However, all that glitters behind these figures is not gold. In the book Los futuros del espa\u00f1ol,<\/em><\/strong> professors Jos\u00e9 Antonio Alonso, Juan Carlos Jim\u00e9nez <\/strong>and Jos\u00e9 Luis Garc\u00eda Delgado<\/strong> argue that the policy for promoting the language has not, to date, been equal to the potential and value that this common language brings, either in Spain or in the other Spanish-speaking countries. The text offers numerous proposals to prevent our language from losing its privileged position in the coming years.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It has been the constant increase in the Spanish-speaking population that has contributed to the increase in the expansion of Spanish as an international language. However, according to the most reliable forecasts, demographics will not sustain the growth of Spanish in the immediate future. Given this panorama, there is an urgent need to establish both state policies (within Spain) and in coordination with the countries belonging to the Hispanic community that consider this language as a superior collective good, understanding as such that whose provision generates a significant benefit for society as a whole.
