The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares, said yesterday in Vigo that he sees the agreement between the United Kingdom and the EU on Gibraltar as “closer”, following the call between the President of the Government, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, and the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak<\/strong>, who on Thursday agreed on the need to reach an understanding “as soon as possible”.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
“Every day that passes without signing is a day lost. For the Spanish government, we would sign it today.<\/strong> I think we can be a little more optimistic, although I have always seen a constructive spirit on the part of the UK”, Albares said in response to questions from journalists, insisting that “the ball is in the UK’s court”.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Asked about the main points of this possible pact to be reached between Brussels and London, the minister said that “diplomacy requires discretion” and added that “nothing is agreed until everything is agreed”.<\/p>\n

However, he pointed out some relevant aspects, indicating that workers need “mobility”, which would mean the disappearance of the physical barriers that currently exist in the Rock. In addition, he focused on the shared use of the infrastructures that exist there for the benefit of the whole Campo de Gibraltar and the colony.<\/p>\n
