This afternoon at 6.30 pm, Casa Am\u00e9rica<\/strong> presents the conference The artistic legacy of Josefina Pl\u00e1: The Juli\u00e1n de la Herrer\u00eda Museum,<\/em><\/strong> by Mar\u00eda Blanco Conde, <\/strong>curator of exhibitions. Free admission until full capacity is reached.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Josefina Pl\u00e1 (Isla de Lobos, Fuerteventura, 1903-Asunci\u00f3n, Paraguay, 1999). She was a renowned writer, poet, art critic, historian, essayist and artist, among other professions that she carried out throughout her long career. From 1927 to 1980 she dedicated herself to the production of ceramic pieces and engravings.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Josefina Pl\u00e1 took up residence in Asunci\u00f3n after the death of her husband, the Paraguayan artist Andr\u00e9s Campos Cervera<\/strong> (Asunci\u00f3n, 1888-Manises, 1937), a painter and ceramist until his death in the midst of the Spanish Civil War. Campos Cervera adopted the pseudonym Juli\u00e1n de la Herrer\u00eda<\/strong> from August 1928 until his death. Throughout his life he collected works by the most prominent contemporary artists of Paraguay and, after his death, Josefina Pl\u00e1 created a museum with the collection formed by her husband, which brings together more than 400 works. In this way Josefina Pl\u00e1, a Spanish transplant to Paraguay, performed a new and important service in favour of the culture of her new country.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n At the event, Luis Prados Covarrubias,<\/strong> director of programming at Casa de Am\u00e9rica, will give a word of welcome and introduce the speaker, Ricardo Scavone Yegros, <\/strong>ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Mar\u00eda Blanco Conde<\/strong> is curator of the art collection of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). She is the author of the catalogue raisonn\u00e9 of Juli\u00e1n de la Herrer\u00eda.
