Next Thursday at 7pm, Casa Asia<\/strong> in Madrid presents at its headquarters (c\/ Mayor, 69) the book A thousand years of women’s literature in Japan,<\/em><\/strong> by Carlos Rubio,<\/strong> which can be followed in streaming on our YouTube channel, and also in person at the Centre, with prior registration<\/strong> <\/a>required.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The origins of Japanese literature can be traced back to the rich shamanistic tradition associated with women and perhaps also to the female protagonism in the mythology of this people. Universally celebrated literary achievements such as the Genji Monogatari,<\/em> by the lady Murasaki, or The Pillow Book,<\/em> by the surprisingly modern Sei Shonagon, in the 10th and 11th centuries, were not isolated products, but links joined to other earlier ones in the same long chain that continues to the present day in the 21st century.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At the event, Carlos Rubio will speak at this meeting about his book A Thousand Years of Women’s Literature in Japan <\/em>(Satori ediciones, 2021), in which he offers a detailed overview of Japanese literature from the nebulous centuries of oral literature to the women authors published in Spanish in the first half of 2021. Emilio de Miguel,<\/strong> director of the Casa Asia Centre-Madrid, and Kenji Hiramatsu,<\/strong> Japanese ambassador in Spain, will welcome the audience. Mari\u00e1n Bango,<\/strong> editor of Satori Ediciones, will also participate.<\/p>\n
