The Diplomat<\/strong><\/h6>\n <\/p>\n
The Council of Ministers yesterday approved the appointment of new Spanish ambassadors to Greece, the Netherlands and Sudan<\/strong>, as well as the appointment of the new secretary general of the European Union<\/strong>, as The Diplomat<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
The embassy in Athens will be headed by Carles Casajuana,<\/strong> replacing Enrique Viguera. He has served as director of the Prime Minister’s International Department under Jos\u00e9 Luis Rodr\u00edguez Zapatero, as well as ambassador to the United Kingdom, Malaysia and the EU’s Political and Security Committee.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Consuelo Femen\u00eda has been appointed ambassador to The Hague<\/strong>, where she will take over from Mar\u00eda Jes\u00fas Alonso, for whom the government has requested the Argentine authorities’ approval for her appointment as head of mission in Buenos Aires. Consuelo Femen\u00eda was until a few weeks ago ambassador to Malta.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
To head the embassy in Sudan, the government appointed Isidro Gonz\u00e1lez Afonso<\/strong>, who was deputy secretary general of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and was previously posted to Cyprus, Morocco and Jerusalem. He will fill the vacancy left by Alberto Ucelay when he was appointed Director General for the Maghreb, Mediterranean and Middle East.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Finally, the Council of Ministers appointed Mar\u00eda Lled\u00f3,<\/strong> who had been Director General for the Coordination of the Internal Market and other Community Policies since the end of September, as the new Secretary General of the EU<\/strong>.
