The Fundaci\u00f3n Carlos de Amberes,<\/strong> together with the Embassy of the Czech Republic, <\/strong>the Czech Centre, <\/strong>the Real Instituto Elcano <\/strong>and the Knihovna V\u00e1clav Havel Library, <\/strong>is organising the conference V\u00e1clav Havel and his legacy<\/em><\/strong> on 23 November at 10 am.<\/p>\n

The first Czech president, V\u00e1clav Havel, was at the centre of one of the key moments in the history of the Czech Republic. On the tenth anniversary of his death, we remember his figure with a series of events including this conference with prominent personalities from the Spanish and Czech spheres. After welcoming remarks by Miguel \u00c1ngel Aguilar,<\/strong> President of the Fundaci\u00f3n Carlos de Amberes, the conference will focus on The future of democracy in Europe in the context of globalisation, <\/em><\/strong>with Ana Palacio,<\/strong> former Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs; Michael \u017dantovsk\u00fd,<\/strong> former spokesperson and advisor, author of the biography of V. Havel, and Jos\u00e9 Ignacio Torreblanca,<\/strong> Director of the European Council on Foreign Relations. The moderator will be Roc\u00edo Mart\u00ednez-Sampere,<\/strong> Director of the Fundaci\u00f3n Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez. This will be followed by a panel discussion on V\u00e1clav Havel and his role in democratic change,<\/em><\/strong> with Martin C. Putna,<\/strong> historian, protagonist of the student movement in Nov. 1989; Sarah Lemmen, <\/strong>researcher at the Complutense University of Madrid, and Mira Milosevich-Juaristi,<\/strong> senior researcher at the Real Instituto Elcano, moderated by Charles Powell,<\/strong> director of the Real Instituto Elcano.
