The Diplomat<\/strong><\/h6>\n <\/p>\n
The Directorate General for Western, Central and Southeast Europe<\/strong>, which Raquel G\u00f3mez-Cambronero<\/strong> recently took over, has two new deputy directors general<\/strong> responsible for EU countries and the rest of the European states.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Specifically, Miguel Alonso Berrio has taken charge of the Deputy Directorate General for European Union Countries<\/strong>, a post that Raquel G\u00f3mez-Cambronero held until April, when she was appointed Director of the Science Minister’s Office, a post she held for only a few months.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Alonso Berrio was stationed in Vienna as the embassy’s “number two”, after having held the same post at the embassy in the Czech Republic. This is the second time he has taken over as deputy directorate general for EU countries<\/strong>, having held the post between 2010 and 2012.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
A diplomat since 1994, he has also been posted in Bulgaria and Slovakia -where he was also the second in the Embassy-, as well as in the Permanent Representation of Spain to the International Organisations in Vienna.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Miguel de Lara is the new Deputy Director General for EU Candidate Countries, European Economic Area Countries and other European Countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
De Lara fills the vacancy left by Jorge Cabrera, who is now the Head of Cabinet of the new Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Luis Cuesta.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Among other countries, the Sub-Directorate General deals with the United Kingdom<\/strong>, following its exit from the European Union, as well as Turkey<\/strong> and the Balkan states<\/strong> aspiring to join the EU bloc.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
A diplomat since 2008, Jos\u00e9 Miguel de Lara has worked in recent months in the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for the EU, after having been posted to the Spanish Embassy in Prague and having held the second post at the Embassy in Cape Verde. He was also posted to the Embassy in New Delhi and to the Deputy Directorate General for EU Countries.<\/p>\n
