contract (PPA) with Movistar Chile<\/strong> that will allow 40% of the telecommunications company&#8217;s total network to be supplied with clean energy, reports Europa Press.<\/p>\n<p>With this agreement, Acciona will supply the telecommunications company with 108 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean energy each year, doubling the &#8216;green&#8217; electricity supply it already provides to the Telef\u00f3nica group, according to a statement.<\/p>\n<p>This will enable Movistar Chile to reduce its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 42,400 tonnes, the impact of which is similar to taking nearly 23,000 cars off the road for a year or the carbon capture of 75,000 trees over 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>In June last year, Acciona signed a contract to provide 100 GWh of renewable electricity per year for the next ten years for Telef\u00f3nica&#8217;s data processing facilities, offices and work centres in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>Acciona has invested close to USD 1.2 billion (EUR 1.02 billion) in Chile to build a portfolio of renewable-only projects that currently totals 684 megawatts (MW).<\/p>\n<p>Movistar Chile is ISO 140001 certified, certifying that it works &#8220;with the highest environmental standards&#8221;, and is also pursuing ISO 50001, which involves reducing consumption, minimising carbon footprint and cutting costs by promoting sustainable energy use.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our commitment to the environment and sustainability is total; if we want to have a sustainable business over time we have, and we must, be responsible with the externalities of our operations and, at the same time, make them work in the most efficient way and with the least possible environmental impact,&#8221; said Movistar Chile&#8217;s Manager of Economic Management of Networks and Control, Jos\u00e9 Antonio
