The diplomat Fernando Olivi\u00e9 Gonz\u00e1lez-Pumariega passed away<\/strong> yesterday at the age of 96, after having been ambassador of Spain to Paraguay, Colombia, Yugoslavia, Belgium and Poland,<\/strong> the latter country where he retired in 1990.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Fernando Olivi\u00e9 also held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among them those of director of the Philippines and the Far East, director of Western Europe and general director of Europe.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n He was also the author of several books, such as “Canada, an American Monarchy” and “The Inheritance of a Broken Empire” and participated in other collective works.
