The series Latin American Complexities in Pandemics<\/em> kicked off yesterday on Casa Am\u00e9rica’s YouTube <\/a>channel, with the intervention of Magdy Mart\u00ednez Solim\u00e1n, director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).<\/strong><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

The director of AECID spoke of solidarity<\/strong> as a value for the future and of the tension<\/strong> that is generated between what we want for other countries – the good we want to do beyond our borders – and the tension inherent in wanting first to worry about ourselves and invest in our national society. This tension, he says, will lead to a decision point: “Will we be willing to be more caring societies in order to achieve global poverty reduction?”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Every Monday, at 6 p.m., there will be a time for reflection on the various complexities facing our society. <\/strong>Short talks by intellectuals and scientists, all from Latin America, will offer complementary and exploratory visions of the challenges we face.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some of the talks already confirmed will be given by Facundo Manes<\/strong> (neuroscientist), Luciana Cadahia<\/strong> (philosopher), Yayo Herrero<\/strong> (anthropologist, engineer and ecofeminist activist), Carissa Veliz<\/strong> (philosopher, expert in privacy and data protection), Susana L\u00f3pez Charret\u00f3n<\/strong> (virologist) and Elizabeth Duval<\/strong> (writer and trans activist), among others.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the current scenario, dizzying changes are taking place that are difficult to understand from simplistic or schematic logics. This is why Casa de Am\u00e9rica believes it is necessary to undertake readings of these new circumstances from a complex and multidisciplinary perspective.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is a cycle of reflection and foresight<\/strong> that will try to accommodate solid and at the same time very direct and proactive arguments, delving into issues such as opacity and transparency (big data, infoxication), the new economies (circular, inclusive, polarised), environmentalism (the 21st century will be green or it won’t be), scientific innovation, proposals by and for citizens in a new pandemic city or new approaches to health (mental or environmental).<\/p>\n
