Romania is participating in the Madrid Book Fair 2026 with booth 413-27C in the International Zone, and a wide-ranging literary program organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute, through the National Book Center and the Romanian Cultural Institute of Madrid, with the support of the Embassy of Romania in the Kingdom of Spain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Madrid Book Fair, celebrating its 85th edition from May 29 to June 14, 2026, is one of the city’s most emblematic cultural events. This year’s edition will feature 431 booths and more than 500 exhibitors.<\/p>\n

Under the official motto “Reading and Laughing: Two Ways to Resist,” this year’s edition will be marked by the presence of literary humor in its many expressions, voices, and languages, exploring its different forms and functions.<\/p>\n

Romania’s presence at the Madrid Book Fair\u2014its first appearance in 2012\u2014one of the most important literary events on the European literary scene, has become a firmly established tradition and a constant benchmark for promoting Romanian culture in the Hispanic world.<\/p>\n

This year, Romania returns to the Fair under the theme “Romania in Letters: Authors and Stories,” in a particularly significant year, as the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid celebrates twenty years of activity in Spain and the twentieth anniversary of the Translation and Publication Support program is also commemorated. Thanks to this program, works by seventy Romanian authors have been translated into Spanish in Spain.<\/p>\n

The participation of prominent Romanian writers such as Ana Blandiana, Mircea C\u0103rt\u0103rescu, and Matei Vi\u0219niec lends special prestige to this program. Joining them are established names such as Ioana P\u00e2rvulescu, whose work \u201cAnd I Too Lived Under Communism,\u201d coordinated by the author, was published this year; and Ioana Nicolae, whose novel \u201cThe Road to Dawn\u201d (\u201cDrumul spre Soare-R\u0103sare\u201d) will be released this fall.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Radu Paraschivescu is one of the highlights of this edition with the Spanish publication of his first novel, \u201cThe Black Butterfly.\u201d The list of guests continues with Corina Oproae, recently recognized internationally after receiving the Tusquets Novel Prize in 2024 and the TodosTusLibros Prize for best poetry book of 2025 for \u201cHow to Bury the Father in a Poem\u201d (\u201c\u00cengroparea tat\u0103lui \u00eentr-o poezie\u201d); Liviu Apetroaie, whose bilingual poetry collection \u201cEl otro espejo sumario\u201d (\u201cCealalt\u0103 oglind\u0103 sumar\u0103\u201d) was published this year by Junimea Publishers, the only publisher promoting the Palabras migratorias collection, dedicated to bilingual works; Miguel Gane, one of the most renowned contemporary Spanish-language authors, whose novel \u201cCuando seas mayor\u201d was published last year in Romanian, translated by Marin M\u0103laicu-Hondrari; and Ana Ropot, a writer and visual artist from the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

The book signing sessions will also feature poets from the Romanian community in Madrid: Elisabeta Bo\u021ban, Eugen Barz, and Gabriel Nan.<\/p>\n
