From May 19 to 22, the Casa \u00c1rabe headquarters in C\u00f3rdoba (9 Samuel de los Santos Gener Street) will host the international summer conference “Ibn Rushd, Averroes and Latin Averroism,”<\/a> which addresses the figure of Ibn Rushd and his influence on medieval Latin philosophy, exploring the connections between Andalusian thought and Scholasticism within the framework of the 900th anniversary of his birth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Casa \u00c1rabe will be one of the two venues for the international summer conferences organized by the Aquinas and the Arabs International Working Group (AAIWG), dedicated to the study of Averroes (Ibn Rushd) and his influence on the Latin philosophical tradition. This event is being held as part of the commemoration of the 900th anniversary of the birth of the Andalusian thinker (1126\u20132026), organized by the University of C\u00f3rdoba in collaboration with Casa \u00c1rabe.<\/p>\n

The congress will bring together international specialists to analyze the thought of Ibn Rushd from a historical and philosophical perspective, with special attention to its reception in the medieval Latin world and its influence on Scholasticism. The event in C\u00f3rdoba is part of an international academic program that will continue in Paris, reinforcing the transnational nature of the study of Averroism.<\/p>\n

Over four days, the program will address central issues such as logic, metaphysics, natural philosophy, and the exegesis of Averroes’ thought, as well as its dialogue with other intellectual traditions. The sessions will combine academic presentations and discussion forums, fostering exchange between established researchers and emerging specialists.<\/p>\n

The congress is dedicated to the memory of Professor Alfred L. Ivry (1935\u20132026), a leading specialist in medieval Arabic and Jewish philosophy and in the work of Ibn Rushd, whose contribution has been fundamental to the development of these studies.<\/p>\n

Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

The C\u00f3rdoba congress will feature more than twenty presentations focused on different aspects of Averroes’ thought, including:<\/p>\n

– Logic and theory of knowledge<\/p>\n

– Metaphor, language, and philosophical exegesis<\/p>\n

– Natural philosophy and the theory of climates<\/p>\n

– Individuation and metaphysics<\/p>\n

– Relationship between philosophy and the Quranic text<\/p>\n

Specialists<\/strong><\/p>\n
