On May 19, the debate “Colombian Presidential Elections: The New Colombian Political Cycle. Trends and Scenarios” will take place as part of Casa de Am\u00e9rica’s “America Votes” series.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Colombian presidential elections, to be held on May 31, come at a time of political transition and a redefinition of national priorities. The country faces this election with open debates on security, social reforms, economic sustainability, and the implementation of public policies in an environment of growing citizen demand for institutional effectiveness and leadership renewal. The fragmentation of the political landscape and the increasing importance of local regions reflect a cycle in transformation that connects with dynamics present in much of Latin America.<\/p>\n

The electoral process also unfolds in a sensitive international context. In recent months, relations between Colombia and the United States have shown episodes of tension, especially regarding security issues, anti-drug cooperation, and divergent foreign policy orientations. These tensions add a relevant geopolitical dimension to the internal debate and could influence the agenda of the next government, as well as the country’s position within the Ibero-American sphere.<\/p>\n

In this context, the ‘America Votes’ series dedicates a session to analyzing the key aspects of these presidential elections: the evolution of the party system, voter trends, the issues shaping the campaign, the impact of socioeconomic factors, and the regional implications of the different scenarios.<\/p>\n
