The Prime Minister and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, declared this Saturday, at the closing of the first Global Progressive Mobilization in Barcelona, \u200b\u200bthat \u201cthe time of the far-right international and of a right wing surrendered to reactionary principles has come to an end.\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Despite the \u201chorizon fraught with uncertainty\u201d and \u201cthe noise of the right-wing lackeys\u201d in the face of the far-right international, he stated in his speech, \u201cthe extremists and the right wing aren\u2019t shouting because they\u2019re winning; they\u2019re shouting because they know their time is running out.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Pedro S\u00e1nchez, the \u201clanguishing right wing\u201d already knows that its inefficient neoliberal orthodoxy died in 2008 with the financial crisis, that its vision of the international order is being \u201cdismantled\u201d by tariffs and illegal wars, and that \u201cits surrender to climate change denial, xenophobia, and the sexism of the far-right international\u201d has been \u201ca mistake\u201d from which it cannot undo.<\/p>\n

Therefore, he expressed his conviction that \u201cthe time of the far-right international and of a right wing surrendered to reactionary principles has come to an end, and we, with you, are going to usher in a new era of progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to defend the idea that a better world is possible, and we are going to do it by standing up to those who believe themselves untouchable,\u201d including \u201cthe billionaires who exploit people and whose greed knows no bounds; the speculators who gamble with people\u2019s savings and homes; the techno-oligarchs who want to line their pockets at the expense of the health of our democracies and the mental health of our youth,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

For his part, Brazilian President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva warned that democracy \u201cis not a destination, it is a daily construction.\u201d \u201cWe must go beyond votes and provide benefits for people\u2019s lives,\u201d he continued. \u201cThere is no democracy if women die simply for being women,\u201d he added, by way of example.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Lula da Silva demanded that, within the UN, developed and developing nations be \u201con equal footing.\u201d The United Nations Security Council was created \u201cto safeguard peace, cordiality, and fraternity, and now we have five warlords who prevent things from happening with their vetoes,\u201d denounced Lula, who called on the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdom to \u201cconvene a meeting and stop this madness of wars. The world can’t take it anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president of the Party of European Socialists (PES), Stefan L\u00f6fven, stated that progressives raise \u201ca fundamental issue: equality: between nations, between cultures, between people regardless of their origin, ethnicity, or gender.\u201d \u201cAs progressives, this is the foundation of everything we do. This is what unites us. And to those who seek to divide us: They shall not pass!\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

For his part, US Democratic Senator Chris Murphy thanked Pedro S\u00e1nchez \u201cbecause he has shown the world how to deal with bullies\u201d and affirmed that the Donald Trump administration is the \u201cmost corrupt\u201d in US history. Likewise, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz denounced the United States for having \u201ca concentration of power and a paramilitary force terrorizing our populations,\u201d with \u201ca president willing to shoot anyone and wage war without threats: that is fascism, or at least a fascist sympathizer.\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t count us out,\u201d he added, \u201cmany of us believe that humanity should come first, not America first.\u201d<\/p>\n

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa denounced the United Nations, stating that \u201cit has become an organization where truth is lacking because those who sit on the Security Council are the ones who continue to violate all the rights and all the laws that this institution has approved.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ministers<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Several Socialist ministers from the Spanish government spoke at the panels on Saturday morning. Foreign Minister Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares warned that the current world order is \u201cthe only one that can guarantee future stability and prosperity\u201d in the face of \u201cthe chaos of war.\u201d Third Vice President and Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, stated that security is linked to the green agenda because the wars in Ukraine and Iran are \u201cfossil wars.\u201d<\/p>\n

For her part, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, Elma Saiz, stressed the need for everyone to combat hate speech, racism, and xenophobia, and emphasized that the Spanish government\u2019s migration policy is based on empathy, solidarity, and citizens\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n

The Ministers of Finance, Arcadi Espa\u00f1a, and for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, \u00d3scar L\u00f3pez, explained that the Spanish government is demonstrating that it is possible to fight inequality by creating wealth. \u201cThe government is breaking with the ineffective economic orthodoxy of neoliberalism.\u201d For his part, the Minister of Justice and of the Presidency, F\u00e9lix Bola\u00f1os, supported regulation of technologies \u201cbased on multilateralism that guarantees that networks participate in the democratic system without interference or bias.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
