The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares, met this Thursday in Algiers with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, in a visit that confirms the gradual normalization of relations between Spain and Algeria following the diplomatic crisis that began in 2022.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Spanish Foreign Minister’s agenda also included a meeting with the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, reflecting the strategic importance of the energy sector in the bilateral relationship.<\/p>\n

Reactivation of Political Dialogue<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to diplomatic sources and news agencies such as EFE and Reuters, Albares emphasized during his appearance that Spain and Algeria have entered “a new stage based on mutual respect and trust,” highlighting the shared desire to “look to the future and strengthen bilateral cooperation.”<\/p>\n

For his part, Attaf described the meeting as \u201cvery positive\u201d and stated that bilateral relations are moving toward \u201ccomplete and lasting normalization,\u201d insisting that both countries have decided to \u201cturn the page\u201d after the diplomatic crisis.<\/p>\n

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that political dialogue will be reactivated in an \u201cintense and structured\u201d manner, with the aim of consolidating a stable framework for relations.<\/p>\n

Energy as a structural pillar<\/strong><\/p>\n

The energy component once again took center stage in the talks. During his remarks, Albares highlighted that Algeria is \u201ca reliable and strategic energy partner for Spain and for Europe,\u201d in a context marked by international volatility.<\/p>\n

Sources cited by Reuters indicate that both delegations agreed on the importance of guaranteeing \u201cthe stability and predictability of energy supplies,\u201d especially through the Medgaz gas pipeline.<\/p>\n

Algerian Energy Minister Arkab, for his part, emphasized his country’s commitment to remaining “a reliable supplier” and to “deepening energy cooperation with Spain,” including potential new joint investments.<\/p>\n
