He has lived in Spain since 1995, when he was forced into exile by the regime of Saddam Hussein. He is the brother of the writer Hassan Mutlak, considered as the \u00abIraqi Lorca\u00bb by the intelligentsia of his country, who was hanged by the regime in 1990 after participating in an attempted coup d’\u00e9tat. Founder of the cultural magazine Alwah<\/em> in 1997, of which he is co-editor, since 2004 he is a professor at the University of San Luis, Madrid.
