The Cervantes Institute in Algiers will host the colloquium \u201cMemory, Exile, and Diplomacy\u201d this Monday, November 10, as part of the program \u201cSpain in Freedom: 50 Years of Democracy\u201d to commemorate \u201cthe success of the collective process that brought about the political, economic, and social transformation of Spain as it transitioned from dictatorship to democracy.\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The round table, introduced by the Spanish Ambassador to Algeria, Fernando Mor\u00e1n, will include Luis Garc\u00eda Montero, Director of the Cervantes Institute; Jos\u00e9 Ignacio Madrazo, Mexican Ambassador to Algeria; and Mohamed Khelladi, Algerian diplomat and former Algerian Ambassador to Spain.<\/p>\n

As the Cervantes Institute recalled, the Spanish government launched the official commemoration \u201cSpain in Freedom. 50 Years\u201d to celebrate democracy and freedom after Franco’s death in 1975. This initiative comprises more than one hundred cultural, educational, and leisure activities that aim to reflect on the progress made, honor those who made it possible, and transmit the value of democracy to new generations. The activities, coordinated by a special commissioner, are taking place throughout Spain and internationally throughout 2025.<\/p>\n

This meeting is taking place within the framework of an official trip by the Institute’s director to Algeria, which also includes a meeting with the Spanish ambassador to Algeria, Fernando Mor\u00e1n, and a visit to the Cervantes Institute in Algiers with its director, Sandra Rivas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
