The Diplomat<\/strong><\/h6>\n

Spanish merchandise exports reached \u20ac255.92 billion between January and August of this year, representing a 0.3% year-on-year increase, according to the Monthly Foreign Trade Report. Imports, meanwhile, reached \u20ac291.02 billion.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Exports of non-energy products increased by two percent from January to August 2025, reaching \u20ac240.44 billion, while sales of energy products registered a 20% decline.<\/p>\n

The sectors with the largest surpluses were food, beverages, and tobacco (\u20ac12.54 billion), non-chemical semi-manufactured goods (\u20ac4.42 billion), and other goods (\u20ac3.96 billion).<\/p>\n

The trade surplus with the European Union reached \u20ac16,318.4 million during this period. The countries with which the Spanish economy recorded the largest surpluses were France (\u20ac12,187.3 million), Portugal (\u20ac11,462.5 million), and the United Kingdom (\u20ac9,876.8 million).<\/p>\n

By autonomous community, those that saw the most significant growth in their exports were Melilla (205%), Ceuta (95%), Extremadura (35%), the Canary Islands (10%), and Cantabria (6%).<\/p>\n

The number of regular exporters (those who have exported more than \u20ac1,000 in the reference year and in each of the three immediately preceding years) grew by 0.4% in the cumulative period from January to August 2025, reaching 44,596 exporters.<\/p>\n
