From today and until next Thursday, October 16, will be held at the Instituto Cultural de M\u00e9xico <\/strong>in Madrid (Carrera de San Jer\u00f3nimo, 46) the program of activities 12 October, Mexico to Spain.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n In Mexico, previously, October 12 was known as the “Day of the Race”. This term referred to the “meeting” of cultures that occurred with the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America in 1492. In 2020, the Senate of the Republic unanimously approved a decree to modify the celebration and establish it as the “Pluricultural Nation Day”. This change was made to abandon the term “race” and highlight the cultural richness that has emerged from the mixing and coexistence of different peoples throughout Mexico\u2019s history.\u00a0 The new approach also aligns with the commemoration of the Indigenous Resistance Day, an approach taken by other countries in the region to honour the struggle of indigenous peoples against colonization.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The programme of events is as follows:<\/p>\n Today, 13 October:<\/strong> 18.30 hrs. Lecture “El penacho del M\u00e9xico moderno”, <\/em><\/strong>by Valeria Corona; 20.00 hours.
