The Council of Ministers authorized this Tuesday a voluntary contribution from Spain to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for the 2025 financial year, amounting to 6,500,000 euros.<\/strong><\/p>\n

UNFPA is a UN agency that focuses on population issues and promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights with the goal of achieving the “three zeros”: zero unmet need for family planning, zero preventable maternal deaths, and zero harmful practices and gender-based violence.<\/p>\n

Spain and UNFPA have maintained a strategic alliance since the signing of a Framework Agreement on June 28, 2005, with the aim of strengthening collaboration between the two. \u201cSpain’s support for UNFPA is part of our country’s efforts to implement a feminist foreign policy and cooperation policy, as set forth in the Law on Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Global Solidarity and the Master Plan for Spanish Cooperation 2024-2027,\u201d the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.<\/p>\n

On April 19, the Department headed by Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares reported in a press release that strategic contributions to multilateral development organizations from the Secretariat of State for International Cooperation to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda had experienced a considerable increase in 2024, citing as an example the contribution to UNFPA’s regular budget, which \u201csixfold\u201d that year compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n
