The Spanish Government has welcomed the decision taken on Tuesday by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) to extend the use of Spanish co-official languages \u200b\u200bto the interventions of its members in plenary sessions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cFor almost 20 years, Spanish co-official languages \u200b\u200bhave been used normally in most European institutions, with the same naturalness as they are used in Spain in both legislative chambers, as well as in all aspects of life and public administration in the Autonomous Communities with co-official languages, in their autonomous governments and parliaments, provincial councils and town councils,\u201d the Government declared in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe promotion of the use of co-official languages \u200b\u200bin the European Union is a priority of the Government, to achieve the objective of bringing our multilingual national identity to Europe and bringing the institutions closer to the citizens,\u201d it continued.<\/p>\n

With this decision, \u201cfrom now on, our languages \u200b\u200bcan also be used by the members of the European Economic and Social Committee in plenary sessions,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

The European Economic and Social Committee is an EU advisory body composed of representatives of workers’ and employers’ organisations and other interest groups. It issues opinions on EU issues to the European Commission, the Council of the EU and the European Parliament, and acts as a bridge between the decision-making institutions of the Union and European citizens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
