The Diplomat<\/b><\/h6>\n

The history of Madrid, from its foundation by Emir Muhammad I to the present day, was the focus of the Tertulia that The Diplomat organized yesterday, together with the Association of Foreign Diplomats (ADE), at the Hotel Meli\u00e1 Madrid Princesa, in which the guest speaker was Ricardo Iglesias, head of the International Department of the Madrid City Council.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the title, \u201cMadrid, the Arab fortress, the imperial capital and the city that never sleeps<\/strong>\u201d, Ricardo Iglesias described the history of the Spanish capital throughout the times in which it went from being an Arab fortress on the border with the Christian kingdoms of the Middle Ages to the capital of an empire in the 16th century and the vibrant city of today.<\/p>\n

The Tertulia was attended by some twenty diplomats from different countries, who were interested in the evolution of the city over the centuries.<\/p>\n

The Diplomat’s Tertulias have been held periodically for years and deal with different aspects of Spanish politics, economy and society.<\/strong> Its objective is to offer foreign diplomats different approaches and points of view on different aspects of the Spanish reality, under the condition of strict confidentiality of what is discussed in the room.<\/p>\n
