The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has rejected this Wednesday the “insults and slander” poured out by the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, against the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijoo, but has also asked the ‘popular’ leader to “have the same attitude” when “the president of the Government is insulted.”
Last Sunday, Maduro lashed out against Alberto Núñez Feijóo, whom he described as a “thief linked to drug trafficking”, after the PP leader participated the day before in a rally held in Puerta del Sol in Madrid in support of the Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia.
The Venezuelan president stated, during an event called in the state of La Guaira (north) to celebrate his re-election two months ago (which has not been recognized by most countries), that the rally had been organized by “the PP, the Francoist party of Spain” and, among its attendees, were “a Falangist called Isabel Ayuso, something like the mayor of Madrid”, a “colonialist fascist, one of the worst there is in Spain”, and “this Feijoo, a thief linked to drug trafficking in Galicia”.
The following day, the Popular Party denounced the “complicit silence” of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the rest of the Executive in the face of Maduro’s words. “The dictator Maduro insults and slanders us in the face of the complicit silence of Sánchez and his ministers. So brave with the dead dictators and so submissive with the living,” declared the general secretary of the Popular Party, Cuca Gamarra through the social network X. “Does anyone know at what time Pedro Sánchez condemns Maduro’s insults and attacks on Feijóo and Ayuso? It’s just to know…”, wrote on the same network the spokesperson for the PP in Congress, Miguel Tellado.
“I reject, of course, those words, which are nothing more than insults and slander towards the leader of the opposition,” declared Albares this Wednesday during an interview on Antena 3. “The words disqualify themselves and are an absolute falsehood,” he continued. According to the minister, citizens can be “certain that Spain’s foreign policy will always defend the Spanish people and the Spanish political parties.” However, Albares warned that he would also like “Feijoo to have the same attitude when the President of the Government is insulted.”
