As part of the 2024 Hispanidad Festival, Fundación Casa de Mexico presents the next 10 and 11 October at 17 hours in its Hall of Multiple Uses Mexican music for two guitars, by the guitarists Jaime Márquez and Omán Kaminsky.
Contemporary Mexican classical music is a vibrant reflection of the country’s rich cultural diversity. This mix of influences has resulted in a dynamic musical panorama ranging from pieces evoking regional folklore to avant-garde compositions experimenting with new forms and sounds.
A clear example of this diversity is the program presented at this concert, which brings together works by some of the most prominent Mexican composers of the moment: Ernesto García de León, Samuel Zyman, Jorge Ritter, Gabriela Ortiz and Enrico Chapela. All these works were written and dedicated to the guitarist Jaime Márquez, who on this occasion presents with another outstanding guitarist, Oman Kaminsky, a recipient of the “National University Distinction for Young Academics” Recognition, the highest recognition given by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) to its young academics.
This concert not only celebrates the creativity of today’s Mexican composers, but also highlights the importance of guitar in the continuous evolution of music in Mexico. It is a demonstration of how the old and the present can coexist in perfect harmony, creating a truly unique and representative sound of modern Mexico.
The concert program includes works by Enrico Chapela, Ernesto García de León, Jorge Ritter, Gabriela Ortiz and Samuel Zyman.
