The Teatro Marquina in Madrid (calle Prim, 11) opens tomorrow the musical Come from away, based on characters and real events, and backed by 7 years of success on Broadway.
On 11 September 2001, the US closed its airspace and hundreds of aircraft were diverted from their destinations. 38 of these planes landed on the island of Gander, New Foundland (Newfoundland) in Canada, and the inhabitants of this small town welcomed them from the purest solidarity, doubling their population in an instant.
As the world witnessed one of the worst atrocities in history, passengers stranded for days in this town regained their faith in humanity through empathy, dedication and warmth with which the inhabitants of this place welcomed and comforted them.
Come from away is a moving, true and captivating work that allows us to imagine that it is possible for a world where borders and wars are not able to stop the evolution of the human spirit. The musical will be on display until next November 11. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
