This exhibition is a unique display of handmade jewellery and crafts, inspired by the Hangeul (Korean alphabet) and Hanji (traditional Korean paper), and is held as part of the Hangeul Week, organized by the Centre, will be open to the public free of charge from September 5 to October 31, 2024, and will offer an immersion in Korean culture through complementary events.
Duality: word against paper is composed of about twenty pieces of artistic jewelry, artistic silversmith and silverware, artistic jewellery and artistic enamel on metal, and has been created by students and teachers from all the Higher Cycles of Plastic Arts and Design of the School of Arte3. These works pay homage to the rich Korean cultural tradition, using Hanji paper and drawing on elements such as the alphabet, nature, poetry and music of Korea.
The director of the Centro Cultural Coreano, Jaekwang Shin, has commented that “this exhibition has a special meaning, since it is a project that was interrupted by the pandemic and now resumes with great enthusiasm and energy. The exhibition offers a unique experience that invites you to discover the artistic language of Korea and Spain, while exploring hanji, a Korean craft paper of complex and laborious manufacturing process, which gives it exceptional quality and longevity. Thanks to its many properties, such as durability, versatility and texture, hanji is being valued internationally in both traditional uses and contemporary art and design”.
