On the occasion of the Romanian Language Day, the Instituto Rumano de Cultura in Madrid (Plaza del Cordón, 1, bottom right) will show the documentary film Great Classics: Liviu Rebreanu, next Friday, August 30, at 7 pm, in its auditorium and in the original version subtitled to Spanish.
Romanian novelist and playwright (1885-1944), Liviu Rebreanu was the son of a teacher and received a scholarship to study at the Military Academy in Bucharest. He spent some time in a small rural village, collecting material on the life of the peasants, a constant theme in his novels: Ion (1920), Răscoala (The Rebellion, 1932). In Padurea spînzuraţilor (The Hanging Forest, 1922) presents a dramatic episode of the First World War: that of the struggle which the Transylvanians, brought by circumstances, had to sustain against their Romanian brothers.
