The resident population in Spain has increased by 67,367 people in the second quarter of 2024 and now stands at 48,797,875 inhabitants, which is a new record, according to the Continuous Population Survey, published yesterday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Although the number of people born in Spain has fallen in recent months, the arrival of migrants, mainly from Venezuela, Colombia and Morocco, has led to an increase in population density.

The countries that have contributed most new immigrants to the Spanish population are Colombia, from where 36,900 people have arrived; Morocco, with 25,100 and Venezuela, with 21,400.

According to INE data, in the second quarter of 2024, those born in Spain fell by 21,680, or 0.05%, to 39,761,459, while those born in other countries increased by 89,047, or 1%.
