The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed yesterday that the Spanish journalist Cake Minuesa, who was detained by the Venezuelan authorities, will be expelled from the country after the efforts made by the department headed by the minister José Manuel Albares and by the Spanish embassy in Caracas.
This was confirmed to Efe by sources from the Ministry, who indicated that the efforts made from Madrid and Caracas regarding the reporter’s situation bore fruit.
According to OkDiario, the media outlet for which Minuesa works, the contacts of Foreign Affairs with the Venezuelan vice-minister of Foreign Affairs were successful and the regime opted to deport the special envoy of this outlet.
The reporter was transferred to Bogotá (Colombia) to be deported to Spain, according to OKDiario and confirmed by Foreign Affairs.
The PP and Vox had asked the Government to intercede with the Venezuelan Government upon learning of the situation of the Spanish journalist who had moved to Venezuela to cover the elections.
Vox president Santiago Abascal even wrote a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs asking for “forcefulness” in diplomatic efforts to demand and obtain the immediate release of Minuesa, who he claimed had been detained by the Venezuelan intelligence service.
The PP also echoed the arrest and its general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, asked the government to intervene to achieve the release of the journalist and “all the Spaniards detained by Maduro in defence of democratic values”, without specifying who she was referring to
