With the visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina (in the photo), next Monday at 17.30, will take place in the Royal Hall (ground floor) of the Mandarin Oriental Ritz Hotel in Madrid, the Business Symposium on Trade and Investment Promotion between Spain and Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will make a bilateral visit to Madrid, Spain, on 21 and 22 July at the invitation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. During the visit, in addition to the official meeting between the two Heads of Government scheduled for 22 July, this Symposium will be held at which the Prime Minister will address distinguished members of the Spanish and European business community and various Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services, potential investors and entrepreneurs, exporters and importers, senior officials from the relevant ministries of the Government of Spain, and leading innovators, experts and stakeholders, among others. A high-level business delegation from Bangladesh will also participate in the event, accompanying the Prime Minister.
Bangladesh, the second largest economy in South Asia, is currently the 35th world economy, and is expected to reach the 24th by 2030. It is also on track to become the ninth largest consumer market by 2030. Spain is Bangladesh’s second largest export destination in the EU, while Bangladesh is Spain’s fourth largest trading partner in Asia. The volume of bilateral trade between Spain and Bangladesh is expected to exceed $4 billion this year. Bangladesh, known as the “textile superpower” and the “world’s dressmaker”, is the world’s second largest exporter of clothing (textiles and clothing), second only to China. More than half of the world’s largest green factories are located in Bangladesh.
According to the Embassy statement, “Bangladesh is a country with infinite opportunities and perspectives. Beyond clothing, the country has wonderful competitive advantages, untapped treasures and immense potential in sectors such as jute, leather, tea, processing agricultural products, frozen seafood, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, crafts, shipbuilding, ICT/software and light engineering. Bangladesh is among the world’s three largest rice producers. It is the world’s second largest supplier of IT and vegetable production, and the world’s third largest producer of fish. Bangladesh produces the best quality jute, tea and leather in the world”.
The arrival of guests is scheduled for 5.15 p.m., followed by the words of the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Spain, Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood, who will act as master of ceremony. At 1730 hours the President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Mahbubul Alam, will address the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Madrid, Ángel Asensio, and the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Spain, Augusto de Castañeda-García.
At 17.48 hours there will be an audiovisual presentation (by Bangladesh) on the prospects, promotion and expansion of trade and investment, and then the deputy and adviser to the Prime Minister for Private Industry and Investment, Salman Fazlur Rahman. Then it will be the turn of the deputy and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud, and at 18.25 will be the time of the speech of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, to end the event with networking and refreshments at 19 hours.
