The Diplomat
The Government of Sweden has appointed the diplomat Per-Arne Hjelmborn, the new ambassador of that country in Spain, a position to which he will join in mid-August.
Hjelmborn was until now Director General of Trade at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, and he already knows our country, because he was stationed in Madrid as First Secretary of the Embassy between 1999 and 2002.
Throughout his professional career, he has also been ambassador in Brasilia and Kuala Lumpur and worked at the Swedish Embassies in Santiago de Chile and in Beijing. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he was head of the Promotion and Internal Market Unit.
Per-Arne Hjelmborn will replace Teppo Tauriainen, who is now returning to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, after staying in Spain for nearly five years, during which he has developed intense activity. During his stay at the head of the Embassy, Teppo Tuariainen had to deal, among other things, with preparing the state visit that the Kings of Spain made to Sweden in November 2021, and with following the rotating Presidency of the European Council exercised by the Nordic country in the first half of 2023, during which the Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, traveled to Madrid.
