The Peruvian Ambassador to Spain, Rafael Roncagliolo Orbegoso, has awarded the Sol del Perú Order, in the Grand Cross class, to the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Iberoamerica, Jesús Gracia, and the Order of Merit for Distinguished Services, in the Grand Cross class to the Director-General for Iberoamerica, Pablo Gómez de Olea.
The ceremony was attended by the Iberoamericana Secretary-General, Rebeca Grynspan, the Secretary-General of the Organización Iberoamericana de Seguridad Social, numerous Latin American ambassadors, the Director of the Corporación Andina de Fomento, the Director of Casa de América, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Spain, and representatives of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
During his address, the Ambassador highlighted the commitment of the Secretary of State and the General-Direction para Iberoamérica with Latin America and with Peru in particular. After pointing out that bilateral relations are the best they have ever been, historically speaking, he said that between 2012 and 2015, during the management of those being decorated, the President of the Republic of Peru, Ollanta Humala, visited Spain on three occasions.

In addition, he highlighted the work being done by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in the process of waiving Schengen visas for Peruvian nationals which is in its final stages and will become a reality very soon. He also praised the resolute Spanish backing for the negotiation process and adoption of the multipart trade agreement between the EU and Peru and Colombia.
For his part, Jesús Gracia, in the name of those being decorated, thanked the Ambassador for the awards and referred to the intense work of the last few years, stressing the importance of Humula’s visits which he considered to be very productive. He added that Peru is the model of a country that has done things well, both economically and in the social, cultural and gastronomic spheres.
