The Community of Madrid awards the Romanian community with the Grand Cross of Dos de Mayo

The Government of the Community of Madrid has awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Dos de Mayo to the Romanian community residing in the region in recognition of “its contribution to the socioeconomic development and prosperity of local society.”

 

The decoration ceremony, during which the Grand Cross was awarded to fifteen personalities, institutions and social entities, took place on May 2 at the Real Casa de Correos, headquarters of the regional government, within the framework of the institutional event for the Day of the Community of Madrid.

 

Among the winners are Romanian citizens living in the region, who, with more than 144,000 people, make up the largest foreign community and “whose integration has been linked to the maintenance of their traditions to enrich the municipalities in which they reside,” he declared. the Community in a press release.

 

In her words, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, recalled that the Romanian community is “the foreign population that creates the most companies” in the region. “That is to say, Romanians, in addition to being very hard-working, with their effort and courage, help us generate employment and give opportunities to others,” she continued. “There are already 144,000 people who live among us, fighting like any other Madrid resident here, in their home,” she added.

 

“This gesture reflects the value and contribution of our compatriots to the host society, socially, economically and culturally, while recognizing the integration model that they represent and promotes diversity, inclusion and intercultural dialogue,” he declared, for his part. part, the Romanian Embassy in Spain. “Romanians represent not only the largest foreign community in Madrid, but also a community fully integrated into the society in which they live and which, at the same time, proudly preserves its identity and culture,” it added.

 

The award was hand-delivered to a Romanian businessman based in Madrid, Gicu Micu, “a model of integration and success,” according to the Embassy. Among those attending the event were the chargé d’affaires a.i. from the Embassy, ​​Raluca Mihaila, who conveyed her gratitude to Ayuso on behalf of the Romanian community, and the consul general of Romania in Madrid, Tiberiu Trifan.
