Next Sunday 7th April at 11.30 am, the Fundación Excelentia presents a tribute to Maria Callas in the Chamber Hall of the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid.
Possessing a portentous voice and an unusual interpretative talent, ‘the divine Callas’ died in her luxurious flat in Paris at the age of only 53. Some say she “let herself die of sadness”. Her artistic career was punctuated by extraordinary successes and more than a few scandals. On more than one occasion he refused to perform because he considered the public irreverent, or because he believed that his voice was not in the right condition. But her undeniable magnetism on stage made her unique, she was the Prima Donna, the Divine Callas, and the public knew how to forgive her. For many, Maria Callas was the greatest opera singer of the 20th century. Despite her premature death, her figure remains intact in the memory of millions of people who continue to enjoy her unique voice.
The Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia, together with conductor José Luis López Antón, will be in charge of providing the music for the voices of soprano Letitia Vitelaru and tenor Eduardo Sandoval. They will be able to enjoy such famous pieces as Rossini ‘s The Italian in Algiers ; Exsultate, jubílate by Mozart; Ch’ella mi creda, Oh mio babbino caro, O soave fanciulla and E Lucevan le stelle by Puccini, Casta Diva by Bellini, Vesti la giubba by Leoncavallo, Parigi o cara by Verdi, and many more.
