Saudi Arabia’s new Ambassador to Spain, Princess Haifa Al Mogrin, has begun her intense activity in Spain, after presenting the Copies of her Letters of Credence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Haifa Al Mogrin, who is the first woman to head her country’s Embassy in Madrid, went to the Ministry on the 5th, where she was received by the ambassadors’ introducer, María Sebastián de Erice.

Since then, the new ambassador has had several contacts with officials from the department headed by José Manuel Albares, including the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Diego Martínez Belio, and the Director General for the Maghreb, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Alberto Ucelay.

Haifa Al Mogrin also visited some of the ambassadors of Arab countries accredited in Spain and the President of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Prado Museum, Javier Solana.

She was also accompanied by the cultural attaché of the Embassy, Saeed Almalki, and attended the concentration of elite Saudi players of the Women’s Football Schools League, which is being held in Madrid. “We are proud of the priority given by our country to the empowerment of women and their presence in all fields, including sport,” she wrote on the Saudi embassy’s social networking account X.

Princess Haifa al Mogrin has a long career as a diplomat, which led to her appointment in 2020 as Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to Unesco, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, which is based in Paris. In this position, she has experienced a period in which Saudi Arabia has been very active in promoting tourism in the country.

Previously, Haifa al Mogrin, who holds a degree in Economics from King Saud University in Riyadh and a Master’s degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, worked at the Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning, where she was Assistant Deputy Minister for Sustainable Development Affairs. She has also had responsibilities in coordinating her country’s participation in the G-20 and has managed the United Nations Development Programme in Riyadh.
