9th Madrid Francophone Film Festival comes to Cineteca Madrid
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

From 14 to 17 March at Cineteca Madrid (Plaza de Legazpi, 8), the 9th Muestra de Cine Francófono de Madrid invites you to share other points of view and to see the role of cinema as a powerful driving force for life, memory, critical intelligence and solidarity.

11 titles from three continents make up this year’s programme, films of different genres (documentaries, intimate dramas, dramatic comedies and animation) representative of the richness of Francophone cinema from three continents: Europe, Africa and America.

Directors from different generations, from Quebec-Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Romania, Lebanon, Senegal and Tunisia, bring viewers closer to the memory of immigration and hospitality, to the memory and history of the Palestinians, to the struggle of the Lebanese people against incessant misfortune, and to the courage of Tunisian women. Other films call on music to fight against inequality and for the future of young people, on love and dignity as an aspiration for human beings.

The French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec, the festival’s guest of honour, will open the festival with the national preview of the film Ru, an adaptation of the eponymous novel by the renowned Canadian writer Kim Thúy, who will be present to discuss the genesis of the project.

The Embassies of Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Tunisia, Senegal, Lebanon, Monaco and Andorra, together with the Instituto Cultural Rumano and the Instituto Francés, among other institutions, have collaborated in the organisation of this festival.

The selected films are Ru, by Charles-Olivier Michaud; Allons Enfants, by Alban Teurlai and Thierry Demaizière; Le mandat, by Sembène Ousmane; Libertate, by Tudor; Dancing on the edge of a Volcano, by Cyril Aris; Chien de la casse (Fierce Dog) by Jean-Baptiste Durand; Bye Bye Tiberias by Lina Soualem; The Journey of Ernest and Celestine by Jean Christophe Roger-Julien Chheng; Les histoires d’amour de Liv S. , by Anna Luif; Le balai libéré by Coline Grando; and Les filles d’Olfa (The Four Daughters) by Kaouther Ben Hania. The full programme and tickets are available for purchase here.
