The Ambassador of Japan, Takahiro Nakamae, will inaugurate the exhibition and cultural activities, Japan, traditions, language and culture, at the Casa de la Cultural in El Escorial (Calle Floridablanca, 3), organised from 1 March to 1 April by the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas Extensión San Lorenzo del Escorial and the Embassy of Japan in collaboration with El Escorial Town Council and the Fundación Japón.
At the inauguration, which will also be attended by the Mayoress of El Escorial, Carlota López Esteban , artistic pieces on loan from the Japanese Embassy and information panels produced by the EOI of San Lorenzo del Escorial will be on display. The opening ceremony will be followed by a demonstration of Japanese calligraphy by Sachiyo Kaneko.
All this will be complemented with different demonstrations and workshops, such as sumi-e, by the artist Mitsuru Nagata, at the Casa de la Cultura or ikebana, flower arrangement, which will take place at the EOI Extension El Escorial (Calle Teresa Berganza, 35) on Monday, 4 March, by the teacher Eiko Kishi. In addition, there will be a furoshiki workshop , the art of gift wrapping organised by the Japan Foundation, and storytelling with Kamishibai. The aim is to bring Japanese culture closer to this area west of Madrid, where this academic year Japanese language courses have started for the first time in its EOI.
