Tomorrow at 8 p.m., the Instituto Italiano de Cultura of Madrid presents a new In Scena a Palazzo event with a concert by Avion Travel, the stars of the Italian music scene for more than 40 years, who are making a stop in Madrid with their Opplà Tour-Avion Travel 1980-2020.
This is an unmissable opportunity to remember some of the most hidden songs from their repertoire, and to celebrate together this important stage of one of Italy’s longest-lived and most refined bands.
Avion Travel began their career in 1980 in Caserta. After a rock debut and a pop phase in the 80s, they adopted the “Avion Travel” style with the album Bellosguardo in 1992, which is their manifesto and marks the beginning of their musical adventure.
In 1993, they released the album Opplà, which was a great critical success. In 1995, the album Finalmente Fiori was released , which represents the natural conclusion of a musical triptych together with Bellosguardo and Opplà. This album was described by critics as “59 minutes of sonic magic”.
In the following years, the band explored new expressive territories, collaborating with artists such as Fabrizio Bentivoglio and presenting their work in important Italian theatres. In 1998, they participated in the Sanremo Festival with the song Dormi e sogna, which won the Critics’ and Quality Jury Prize for best music and arrangement.
In the following years, they continued to release albums and perform live. In 2018, they again won the Sanremo Festival with the song Sentimento, which also won the Critics’ and Quality Jury Prize, and in 2020 they went on a tour named after one of their best-loved albums, Opplà, released in 1993, in which they again proposed some of their greatest hits.
Avion Travel are known for their historic line-up, made up of Peppe Servillo (vocals), Mimì Ciaramella (drums), Peppe D’Argenzio (saxophone), Duilio Galioto (piano and keyboards), Ferruccio Spinetti (double bass and electric bass) and Mario Tronco (artistic direction).
