The Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico premieres the play ‘La Fortaleza’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Written and directed by Lucía Carballal, the play La Fortaleza can be seen from today until the 3rd of March in the Tirso de Molina hall of the Teatro de la Comedia (Calle Príncipe, 14).

It is a show that forms part of the Diálogos contemporáneos, a cycle whose main objective is to highlight the capacity of Spanish classics to influence contemporary creation, and at the same time to offer the possibility for contemporary authors to illuminate the lesser-known aspects of these great works. These are original plays that dialogue from the contemporary with our classical legacy, in this case with El castillo de Lindabridis, by Calderón de la Barca, a play directed by Ana Zamora and currently being performed in the main hall of the Teatro de la Comedia.

The fortress revolves around inheritance: everything – material or immaterial – that we receive from our parents, also the cultural heritage that, as a society, we inherit from the generations that preceded us. What to do with all that past? What moves us to preserve it? Can we confess that, sometimes, we don’t know what to do with it? How much must we leave behind in order to move forward? Perhaps each person, each era, is defined by the place it gives to its ruins. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
