On Monday 15 January, the Instituto Cultural Rumano in Madrid organised a vibrant and energetic celebration of Romanian national culture, featuring a poetry reading by Mihai Eminescu and other Romanian poets.
This event was organised under the auspices of the Romanian Embassy, in honour of the 174th anniversary of the birth of the national poet born in Botosani in 1850. The event culminated in a lecture entitled Eminescu is also in Spain, given by Professor Héctor Martínez, which explored the connections and influence of Spain on Eminescu’s work.
Also present at the event was the Romanian ambassador, George Bologan, who gave a speech in which he stressed the importance of preserving and promoting Romania’s rich cultural heritage: “Cultural dialogue educates us, enriches us and allows us to understand and value the diversity that surrounds us,” said the Romanian ambassador. It is through this exchange of ideas, customs and traditions that we expand as individuals and as a society, opening our minds and broadening our vision of the world.
A moving and special moment was the poetry reading, where the audience was able to delve into the beauty of the words and the depth of the verses of Eminescu and other Romanian poets.
