The Centro Cultural Coreano (Paseo de la Castellana, 15) presents the first Webtoon exhibition, WEBTOON: Gateway to Reality and Fantasy, at its Han-ul Gallery from 19 January to 29 February.
Webtoon is a term composed of ‘web’ and ‘cartoon’, and encompasses the presentation of Korean comics in digital format, accessible through online platforms.
In collaboration with KOMACON (Korea Manhwa Contents Agency), this exhibition presents two Korean webtoons, Sweet Home and Rebirth in Paradise, with the aim of conveying a positive and hopeful message to start the New Year with good energy.
The exhibition invites reflection on solidarity and altruism through Sweet Home, where the characters face desperate situations without losing the flame of hope. On the other hand, the main vignettes and dialogues of Rebirth in Paradise, imbued with Eastern philosophy, provide an opportunity to reflect on death and everyday problems, giving a deep insight into our own lives.
For the closing ceremony, the Centro Cultural Coreano will invite Gosaribaksa, multi-award-winning author of Rebirth in Paradise, and Míriam Bonastre Tur, Spanish author of Webtoon, and hold a talk on the Webtoon industry and its fantasy genre works.
At the opening ceremony, which will take place on Friday 19 at 18.30, there will be a quiz show and participation in a competition about Webtoon and the exhibition, with many prizes.
Then, at 8 p.m., the event will be brought to a close with a talk entitled Cruce de miradas en Webtoon: la fantasía como lazo de unión entre Corea y España, with Gosaribaksa and Míriam Bonastre Tur. Also, on 29 January at 6 p.m. in the Centre’s Multipurpose Hall, Gosaribaksa will take part in a workshop at the University of Design and Technology (UDIT) and will attend the Valencia Comic Fair 2024.
