The Diplomat
The Austrian Ambassador to Spain, Enno Drofenik, attended the reopening of the Austrian Honorary Consulate in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria last week.
The event, which took place on 11 December, was also attended by the mayor of the city, Marco Aurelio Pérez, and the vice-president of the Cabildo, Augusto Hidalgo.
The Consulate is located in the Mercurio Building in Playa del Inglés, and is headed by Melanie Kopreck Tervoben.
At the inauguration the ambassador emphasised that “the largest Austrian colonies in Spain are in the Canary Islands” and added: “Good consular support for our compatriots is an absolute necessity”.
The Austrian Embassy has a network of eight Consulates on Spanish territory which provide assistance and services to Austrian citizens in our country. In addition to the Honorary Consulate General in Barcelona, there are Honorary Consulates in Spain in Bilbao, Malaga, Valencia, Palma de Mallorca, Seville, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and now again in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
