The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a new call for scholarships for internships in the Department’s central services and in five Embassies abroad throughout 2024, for a total of 342,000 euros.

In accordance with the Order of December 14, 2023, published last Tuesday by the Official State Gazette and signed by the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Luis Manuel Cuesta, the beneficiaries of the tests will be Spanish citizens who have passed the Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations, taught at the Diplomatic School, and Spaniards who have passed the Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Public Service, taught at the CEI-Private Foundation Center for International Studies, based in Barcelona and whose board of trustees they are part of the Ministry.

The purpose of the call is to carry out an internship period in the central services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation or in diplomatic representations abroad, to complete training in International Relations. The total amount of the call is 342,000 euros and the internship period, which cannot be extended, is nine months, between March 1 and November 30, 2024.

Of the 31 scholarships called for in this program, 26 correspond to positions in central services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minister’s Office, the four Secretariats of State and the Undersecretariat of Foreign Affairs) and five to positions in diplomatic representations abroad (specifically, in the Spanish Embassies in Germany, Ireland, Norway, the Netherlands and Poland).

In August 2019, the Ministry recovered the paid internship program, which was operational between 2006 and 2012 but was canceled between 2013 and 2018, both years included, for budgetary reasons.

In 2005, the Diplomatic School launched the Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations with the double objective of preparing Spanish postgraduates who wish to delve deeper into the analysis and study of international reality and to facilitate the preparation of applicants for future entry. in the Diplomatic Career.

Likewise, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs created, starting with the 2006-2007 academic year, a study aid scholarship program for Spanish students of the Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations and a second scholarship program for internships at the Ministry. aimed at those Spanish students who have passed the aforementioned Master’s Degree at the Diplomatic School. The objective of this second scholarship program is to complete the training in international relations of postgraduate students for a maximum period of one year. These internships allow them to learn about the tasks carried out in the central services of the Ministry and, therefore, expand and complete the theoretical studies acquired in the Master’s Degree.

Since the 2019-2020 edition, students who hold the Master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Public Service, taught at the CEI-Private Foundation Center for International Studies, have been included among the beneficiaries of this second scholarship program. With the inclusion of CEI students, the aim is to support study centers from other autonomies in an attempt to promote access to the Diplomatic Career at the national level.
