The play Y… lo que el viento se llevó (And… Gone with the Wind), the crazy story of how the script of the famous film was written, arrives today at the Teatro Pavón in Madrid (Calle de Embajadores, 9).
The play, which runs until 7 January, stars Gonzalo de Castro, Pedro Mari Sánchez, José Bustos and Carmen Barrantes, with four characters who will make the audience laugh and be moved in equal parts by the poetics of their colossal attempt.
The behind-the-scenes of golden Hollywood and the true story of how producer David O. Selznick turned Gone with the Wind into a hit after drastic modifications are the starting point for Northern Irish playwright Ron Hutchinson’s comedy Moonlight and Magnolias (2004).
In the words of the play’s translator, Daniel Anglès, “in this performance we discover that the great classic Gone with the Wind would not be what it is if, at the time, three great names in Hollywood history had not locked themselves in an office for a week. It is there that the final script of this great film was created. It is the theatre, this time, that allows us to see the world of cinema from an unusual perspective, at the pace of comedy”.
