Since Monday 16 October, the 23rd edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World (SLIM) has been taking place, which will end on Wednesday 25 October with a meeting with the renowned writer Gianrico Carofiglio (in the photo) at the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid.
The Week of the Italian Language in the World is the most important global event dedicated to the Italian language and its promotion, which, since its creation in 2001, has annually received the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Republic.
The Instituto Italiano de Cultura of Madrid is participating in this edition with a rich and intense programme of activities ranging from literary meetings to musical events, suitable for an adult audience or for children, with great protagonists of Italian culture.
The Week began with a meeting with Zerocalcare, the famous cartoonist and illustrator, well known also in Spain, who held a dialogue with the director of the Institute, Marialuisa Pappalardo, with whom he shared anecdotes about his artistic career and his vision of comics as a language to tell universal stories and also of radical current affairs.
Later, on Wednesday 18 October, a debate took place on the occasion of the meeting, within the framework of the Institute’s Reading Club, with Mario Desiati, winner of the Strega Prize 2022 and author of the novel Spatriati.
In collaboration with the Swiss Embassy, last Thursday, the Institute hosted the concert by Kety Fusco, entitled Experimental Performance w/ two Harps, light and Visuals, with the participation of visual artists Gabriele Ottino and Sharon Ritossa, a visual and auditory journey in an extemporaneous musical dimension, far from the classical canons of the harp and rich in moving images suggesting contemporary themes, with a particular focus on environmental protection.
The musical events will continue today, Saturday 21 October, with two concerts: Cartoons in Jazz at 12 noon and Serata con il Moncalieri Jazz, at 8 pm. The first event, for children aged three and up, will feature Moncalieri Jazz, a group of six musicians who present the tunes and songs of famous cartoons in jazz, thus bringing the youngest children closer to the world of music. The second concert will present the great jazz personalities who have characterised the evolutionary phases of this fascinating musical genre.
