Spain registered 211,077 births in the first eight months of 2023, almost 7,000 fewer than in the same period of 2022 and the lowest figure for the same time frame in the last seven years, according to monthly birth estimates from the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to INE data, collected by the Europa Press agency, during the first eight months of 2023, an estimated 211,077 children were born in Spain, compared to 217,939 in 2022, 219,635 in 2021, 229,904 in 2020, 236,965 in 2019, 245,696 in 2018 and 257,779 in 2017. This continues the downward trend since these monthly data have been recorded.
